How to Make a Hand Shadow Turtle

Hand Position Reference

Instructions

  1. Close into a full fist: Curl every finger in until the hand becomes one rounded shape.
  2. Tuck the thumb in cleanly: Keep the thumb folded tight instead of flaring out from the side.
  3. Soften the knuckles: Avoid a sharp, tense fist. A slightly rounded top makes the shell read better.
  4. Aim the shell at the light: Turn the fattest part of the fist toward the wall so the silhouette feels wide and sturdy.
  5. Animate it with a tiny bob: A gentle forward creep or small up-and-down bounce helps the turtle feel alive.

Make it read clearly

  • If the thumb peeks out too much, the shell can look broken.
  • A compact fist works better than a hard clenched one.
  • Keep the motion slow, like the turtle is carefully walking.
