How to Make a Hand Shadow Dog

Hand Position Reference

Instructions

  1. Stretch the hand forward: Hold the hand halfway between the light and the wall, with all four fingers pointing forward.
  2. Keep the head together: Hold the middle, ring, and pinky close so the top of the muzzle stays solid.
  3. Bend the snout: Curl your index finger down slightly to shape the dog's nose.
  4. Lift the ear: Raise your thumb straight up so it reads as the ear.
  5. Animate the mouth: Open and close the gap between your ring finger and pinky by moving the pinky a little.

This same silhouette can also read as a wolf or fox depending on the angle and movement.

App practice focus

The Shadow Pals app treats dog as a beginner pointer-bend figure. Keep the index bend small and deliberate; the dog reads from the raised thumb ear, the forward snout, and the barking mouth gap.
