How to Make a Hand Shadow Tiger

Instructions

  1. Build the head first: Put your thumb between the index and middle finger on one hand, then turn it so the silhouette shows two small ears and a longer cat-like nose.
  2. Use the index finger as the jaw: Keep the index finger free enough to open and close as the tiger's mouth.
  3. Shape the body with the second hand: Stretch the index finger straight back for the tail and keep the other fingers grouped to read as the rear legs.
  4. Layer the hands into one animal: Bring the body hand behind the head hand so the wrists merge into a single tiger silhouette.
  5. Animate the run slowly: Use the little finger on the front hand for the front leg, move the rear fingers as paired back legs, and keep the face mostly steady so the run still reads clearly.
  6. Finish with a sitting pose: When you're ready, switch which hand carries the head so the tiger can settle down, flick its tail, and walk away.

Colby notes in the video that the silhouette can also read as another big cat, so movement and framing help sell it specifically as a tiger.
